Pediatric Dentistry

At Sikora Family Dentistry, we love working with children and helping them develop good oral care habits that will last a lifetime. Our gentle and compassionate staff is dedicated to creating a positive environment in which our young patients feel comfortable.

Your Child’s First Appointment

During his or her first visit, we will gently examine your child’s teeth and gums. Depending on your child’s age, we may also clean the teeth and take X-rays to assess the health and development of permanent teeth.

Your child’s first dental visit can set the stage for a lifetime of proper oral hygiene. Dr. Sikora will speak with you and your child about his or her current oral hygiene routine, proper brushing and flossing, and the connection between diet and oral health. We will also address any questions or concerns you may have about habits such as thumb sucking or teeth grinding. Although parents are allowed in the examination room, we encourage you to let your child spend a few minutes one-on-one with the dentist and hygenist to get comfortable and develop a healthy relationship for life.

Child Visiting The Dentist - North Olmsted, OH - Sikora Family Dentistry

First Visit Tips

Children are perceptive, and if you have your own anxiety about going to the dentist, it’s important not to pass that on to your child. Set a calm, cheerful tone that will keep the experience positive.

Before the appointment, calmly explain what your child can expect at his or her first dental visit. Read picture books about going to the dentist and encourage your child to “play dentist” with you at home.

Cavity Prevention and Treatment

Children are especially prone to cavities if their diet is high in sugary foods or drinks. It is essential to limit sweets and encourage children to brush and floss properly after every meal. Regular dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants can also help to prevent decay. If your child is prone to cavities, we provide gentle restorative treatment to repair cavities and keep teeth healthy.
