Tooth Bonding

Bonding is one of the easiest and most affordable dental procedures to enhance your smile. At Sikora Family Dentistry, our experienced dentists offer bonding procedures that can lengthen or change the shape of teeth, correct minor spacing irregularities, improve discoloration and repair cracks or chips in the teeth. You'll be amazed to see how a simple bonding procedure can dramatically improve your smile in just one visit.

Advantages Of Bonding

In addition to being cost effective, dental bonding is noninvasive and can usually be performed without anesthesia unless it's being used to treat a cavity or decay. It involves little to no removal of tooth enamel and takes only one visit to complete treatment. Bonding may also be used to cover part of a tooth root that has been exposed due to receding gums and can significantly decrease sensitivity in these areas. With proper care and a good dental hygiene routine, dental bonding can last years.

The Dental Bonding Procedure

At Sikora Family Dentistry, we use advanced dental techniques and state-of-the-art technology to provide a comfortable experience in a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. Your dentist will begin the bonding procedure by cleaning the area to ensure there is no plaque on the surface of the tooth or teeth. Then the composite resin bonding material is matched to the shade of your natural teeth. The tooth's surface is etched with roughing gel, and conditioning solution is applied so the bonding material adheres to the tooth properly. The tooth-colored composite resin is then applied, molded, smoothed and shaped to achieve the desired results. A special ultraviolet light is applied to harden the composite material. After it has fully hardened, your dentist will trim, shape and polish it to blend seamlessly with the tooth's surface.

Caring For Bonded Teeth

Although bonded teeth don't require special care, it's important to avoid biting your fingernails or chewing ice, pencils, pens and other hard objects. Regardless of whether you've had bonding, never use your teeth to open packages or bottle caps. Following a good oral hygiene routine is also vital. Make sure to brush your teeth twice a day, floss daily and rinse with an antiseptic mouthwash. Visiting us for regular dental checkups and cleanings not only keeps your teeth and mouth healthy, it allows us to check and make sure your bonding is in good shape. If you feel any sharp edges, a bonded tooth becomes chipped or you experience discomfort, call our office to schedule an appointment. It's also important to note that bonding materials and other restorations like fillings and crowns do not whiten, so if you're considering in-office or take-home teeth whitening, make sure to do it before you have the tooth bonding procedure.
