Partial And Full Dentures

senior woman at dental office

Dentures are prosthetic devices that resemble natural teeth and gums and are used to replace missing teeth. Getting dentures requires multiple appointments over several weeks. With over 28 years of experience, Drs. William and Christine Sikora at Sikora Family Dentistry in North Olmsted, Ohio, offer a wide array of dental services, including partials or full dentures. We take a modern approach to dentistry and help you get the dentures you need to improve your smile, chewing, speech and quality of life.

Partial Dentures

When you’re only missing a few teeth and the surrounding natural teeth aren’t strong enough to support dental bridges, we may suggest a partial. Partials fill in the spaces from missing teeth and prevent remaining teeth from shifting. Partials are fitted and fastened to your natural teeth to keep them in place. Partials aren’t permanently fastened, so you can easily remove them for cleaning or while sleeping.

Full Dentures

Full dentures, also called complete dentures, replace all your natural teeth. Conventional dentures are made after any remaining teeth are removed and the gums have healed, which usually takes about four to six weeks. Full dentures are fitted to your top or bottom gumline, or both, and held in place by suction and/or with a dental adhesive. Just like partials, full dentures are easily removed. You may also opt for fixed dentures, which are anchored firmly into bone tissue using dental implants.

Fitting Your Dentures

When necessary, the first step to getting dentures is tooth extractions. Next, our dentists make highly accurate impressions of your mouth through molds and measurements to create your custom dentures. We work with you to choose the ideal shape and color of the teeth in your dentures, then create a wax model to show you how your dentures will look. Finally, we help you place your new dentures and make any required adjustments to ensure a natural, comfortable fit. Your dentures are very durable but may need repair, realignment or readjustment due to normal wear. It’s not unusual to experience some soreness or speech and chewing difficulty, but these issues subside as your gums and muscles get used to your dentures.
